And So Forth for Woodwind Doubler and Piano
A recital piece for woodwind doubler (Flute, Alto Saxophone & B-flat Clarinet) with piano accompaniment. Duration approximately 4’40”.
Reed part and piano accompaniment PDFs are provided.
This contemporary piece was composed as a ‘Morceau de Concours’ with first-study flautists in mind who are looking to demonstrate their doubling skills. The title is a play on words with regards to the quartal harmony featured throughout. Influences stem from impressionism, modernism and dissonant minimalism. The most virtuosic material is reserved for the flute. The saxophone section explores the instrument's pitch and dynamic range through longer, lyrical phrases. The clarinet section presents some challenges, but at a slower tempo and with more freedom compared to the livelier flute sections. The accompaniment is predominantly ostinato-driven.
