Rhapsody for Woodwind Doubler and Piano
A recital piece for woodwind doubler (Flute, B-flat Clarinet & Alto Saxophone) with piano accompaniment. Duration approximately 5’50”.
Reed part and piano accompaniment PDFs are provided.
This piece was composed as a ‘Morceau de Concours’ with first-study flautists in mind who are looking to demonstrate their doubling skills - the most virtuosic material is reserved for the flute, while the clarinet and saxophone sections predominantly focus on tone and expressiveness. Composed in free-form with influences from the late romantic period and impressionism, the contrasting sections are intended to evoke different images and emotions as though appreciating artworks in a gallery. Although some of the material is revisited, there are alterations to reflect how our perception and responses can be affected by time, experience and new perspectives.
