KOMOREBI for Solo Native American-Style Flute

A jaunty piece for Native American-Style Flute (minor pentatonic scale). Duration approximately 2’20”.

Komorebi is a Japanese word that literally translates to “sunlight leaking through trees”. It describes the play of sunlight filtering through leaves, branches and trunks of trees, creating a dancing, shimmering, dappled effect.

The flute part is notated in Nakai notation (i.e. F-sharp minor with sharpened 6th + fingering diagrams), so it can be played on 6-hole minor pentatonic flutes in any key. The bright nature of the piece, however, does lend itself to mid and high range flutes.

N.B. The demo recording on the “Native American-style Flute“ page is recorded on a Red Kite F (432Hz) cedar flute. Alternative fingerings may need to be used depending on the maker of your flute.
